The crowd funding site Kickstarter has given society a lot since its inception in 2009. There have been movies, gadgets, foods, and much more that have come to life thanks to the financial backing of donors around the globe. Home improvement enthusiasts are optimistic that the site will produce a bevy of new items that will change the way we look at home décor. Here are some of the most successful and coolest in-the-works projects that seem on the verge of becoming reality.

Home Aquaponics Kit: Self-Cleaning Fish Tank That Grows Food by Nikhil and Alejandro

Real teamwork went into the creation of this unique multifunctional fish tank for your home or office. First off, fish waste fertilizes plants that grow above the tank, and in turn the plants end up cleaning the water for the fish. This is a very cool and very useful Kickstarter project that has begun production after successfully reaching the designers goal of $100,000…plus an extra $150,000 to boot.

INLET by Living Plug

There haven’t been many advances to the standard wall outlet save for adding a USB port or making neat outlet cover designs, but Living Plug is out to change that. Their INLET Kickstarter project is a device that plugs into standard outlets but improves aesthetics by offering interchangeable faceplates. On top of that there are child safety features that prevent conductivity to metal objects and even an off button that helps preserve phantom power from devices such as microwaves or phone chargers.

SketchChair by Diatom

The SketchChair is more of a platform than a product but it can lead to groundbreaking designs with regards to home décor. The open source program allows users to create their own furniture online and share their designs with an Internet community, testing and tweaking them among each other until they’re finally deemed worthy of production.

The Floating Mug by Tigere Chiriga

The floating mug seems like a simple concept but one that hasn’t really been tackled by designers thus far. Tigere Chiriga’s concept takes the traditional coffee cup but incorporates a handle that enables the mug to hover, thus preserving the table below from moisture and stains. You won’t even have to worry about finding a coaster!

The Floyd Leg by Kyle Hoff and Alex O’Dell

In a sort of ‘table on the go’ concept, these designers created a way to carry table legs with them and turn any item into a work surface by using a simple clamp design. The four inconspicuous legs can be toted on business trips or to temporary housing and attached to a simple flat item like a door to create a usable table for the time being. The product caught the eye of business travelers everywhere as funding reached over $250,000 on an $18,000 goal.

TempaGrill by Jeff Boggs

The TempaGrill is a really simple concept but would greatly increase grilling efficiency, especially for master barbecue aficionados. Boggs created a simple device that allows the grill lid to stay open at three different levels, therefore ensuring optimum heat for the charring of tasty backyard treats.

The Cozy is one of the first Kickstarter projects from this company who intends to create energy efficient products that link with smart phones. The Cozy is a cover that slips over your radiator and can be monitored and controlled from your smart phone. The radiator becomes

linked to your WiFi and can be set from anywhere in the house or even the world.

Kegbot Tablet-Powered Kegerator by Team Kegbot

Which house is complete without a kegerator? Answer: none. Team Kegbot looks to simplify and increase the efficiency of that household staple with their tablet-controlled kegerator. The tablet records every pour from the kegerator (could be good and bad) and gives you reports on the amount of beer left in the keg. It even lets you create drinker accounts and statistics, tweets when somebody pours a beer, and can take a picture and email it to your phone when the keg tapper is pulled.

When your dog isn’t tearing up shoes or carpet while you’re at work, they should be rewarded. That’s just what the iCPooch intends to help achieve. You can hold video chats with your dog while you’re on hold on the other line with a client and you can even release a treat if your pup is behaving. The device helps with the dog’s separation anxiety and lets you know your friend is alright while you’re not home.

VidaPak Single Serve Hot and Cold Beverage by the VidaPak Team

So far the VidaPak is well short of its $95,000 goal but it would be cool if the item came to fruition. Building on the popularity of single packet iced coffee makers, this product stores ingredients required to make a number of different items such as soda, energy drinks, Gatorade-like thirst quenchers, cocoa and more. When the user selects the appropriate button, the machine mixes the ingredients together to give you the requested drink. This would work perfectly for an office where you might want coffee in the morning, an energy drink after lunch, and potentially a beer when the clock hits 5:01.
