OGC CEO Moe Abbas Receives 40 Under 40 Award
Ottawa General Contracting is proud to announce that our CEO, Moe Abbas, has been named one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40. This prestigious award is presented annually to 40 Canadians under the age of 40 who stand out as leaders in their fields and who are known for giving back to their communities. The awards are intended to foster mentorship and professional development in Canada by highlighting the success stories of those who have made it to the top.
Established in 1995, 40 Under 40 is co-hosted by the Ottawa Business Journal and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce. This year a panel of five judges spent more than 100 hours choosing the 40 recipients from a pool of more than 150 individuals. Recipients are judged on business achievements, expertise and community involvement. Other recipients this year included a Parisian-trained baker, an open-source software entrepreneur and a dentist who volunteers her services in rural Kenya.
OGC employees were gratified to see their CEO recongized. From Christine Baxter, BCom. HR Manager.
Moe Abbas has transformed a one man operation into a national company employing over 70 people in under 5 years, and before he turned 28. I admire his ambition, tenacity and simply the ability to get things finished without hesitation. I don't think there are many people out there that could accomplish so much, with so little.
Mr. Abbas started his first landscaping company at age 19 with no money, business experience or formal education. After builing the business into a success, he sold it in order to start Ottawa General Contractors LTD. OGC is now the flagship company of The Canadian General Contractors Group providing design and build services across the nation including Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary. Mr. Abbas sits on the board of directors of the Better Business Bureau of Eastern Ontario and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and has held many fundraisers for Habitat for Humanity NCR. He has been featured as a renovation expert in Mike Holmes Magazine, Ottawa Renovates Magazine, Ottawa Family Living Magazine, CBC News, CTV News, YAHOO! News, CFRA Radio, DAWG FM Radio and Rogers Daytime TV among many others.
The award was presented at a gala event on June 20 at the Hilton Lac-Leamy. The gala supports the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health through a charitable draw that includes fabulous prizes.
